RSPB Talk - Birds: Their Hidden World by Peter Holden MBE

This talk looks at British birds and their amazing lives, the sort of information that most 'bird books' leave out!. We look at their adaptation and aspects of reproduction; from the secretive time of acquiring a territory and building a nest to their highly developed social behaviour and the roles of the different sexes. On the way we will consider the purpose of bird song, by listening to common examples, and we will explore the mystery of mechanical sound used by a few familiar species. Finally, we will consider, if left to their own devises, how long can these birds...

For those who have not heard of Wader Quest this talk introduces the organisation through the beauty and diversity of the waders to be found around the world, some of which are quite surprising. Liberally scattered with stunning photos and information about the birds and some amusing personal anecdotes from Rick and Elis' travels to see waders. It is both entertaining and informative while emphasising the acute crisis that is facing wader conservation and how we can all help to combat it. Rick and Elis Simpson are a husband and wife team who dedicate their lives to promoting wader conservation....
New Lount Nature Reserve

A talk from the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, North West group. John McDonald describes the history of the site and explains how this former colliery has been transformed into an excellent nature reserve which hosts a wide range of amphibians, reptiles and birds.
