The Maria Hanson Foundation (me&dee charity) is a local charity many of you may not have heard of yet it offers families affected by life limiting illnesses a wonderful gift – a stay at the seaside for what may be their final family holiday together.
When it’s uncertain how long a family have left together making memories such as these is invaluable. The Foundation arranges holidays at Mablethorpe in two caravans for a week’s much needed break – all at no cost to the family. Each family receives their own private beach hut for their stay along with grocery vouchers and every attempt is made to cover individual health needs from respirators to kidney dialysis to carers.
The holidays are offered to anyone of any age, with life threatening, life limiting and terminal medical conditions as well as serving and ex serving military who have sustained serious injury and PTSD through their service. Just a few examples of the many families who have been helped can be found on the website www.mariahansonfoundation.org.uk and show the huge difference this makes at such a difficult time.
Maria Hanson, the lady behind this wonderful charity, set up the charity in 2006. Her work has been recognised through her MBE and at the Pride of Britain Awards. However the real reward is the help she offers to hundreds of people every year.
Each holiday costs the charity £200. Each year the Foundation requires £40,000 to continue its good work. To find out more about making a donation, offering support or volunteering then visit www.mariahansonfoundation.org.uk/ There are a number of ways to make a straight forward donation – by text, online or by setting up a monthly direct debit. Alternatively a donation of £200 covers the cost of one whole holiday and makes you a member of the exclusive 100 Club.
Of course you could also look to organise a fundraising event or become involved in one locally. The next event in Ashby will be the LoveLBG Ladies Business Group Christmas Lunch at The Lyric Rooms. Tickets cost £29.50 and include a two course Christmas lunch and a number of festive stalls to get some Christmas shopping done. The event will be raising money for the Maria Hanson Foundation.
